Imagine standing in a spot where emperors were crowned, sultans plotted world conquests, and civilizations collided. This isn't just a tour; it is a walk through the timeline of human history. Istanbul is the only city in the world that sits on two continents, and on this tour, we dive deep into the heart of its European side—the historic Sultanahmet peninsula.

Your day begins in the Hippodrome, which might look like a park today, but close your eyes and you can almost hear the roar of 100,000 spectators cheering for Roman chariot races. You’ll touch the Egyptian Obelisk, a solid piece of granite carved 3,500 years ago—making it older than the city itself.

From there, we step into the spiritual silence of the Blue Mosque. Unlike museums, this is a living place of worship. You’ll leave your shoes at the door and walk on soft carpets, gazing up at 20,000 handmade Iznik tiles that wash the interior in a calming sea of blue and green light.

But the crown jewel is Topkapi Palace. This wasn't just a home for the Ottoman Sultans; it was a city within a city. We don't just show you the weapons and diamonds; we take you into the Harem—the private, forbidden quarters where the Sultan’s mother, wives, and children lived in a gilded cage of jealousy, power, and intrigue. You'll walk through tiled corridors that whisper secrets of an empire that ruled for 600 years.

We break the history with a taste of local life. For lunch, we sit down for a traditional Turkish meal—think hot lentil soup, grilled meats, and fresh shepherd’s salad—giving you a chance to chat with your fellow travelers.

Finally, we tackle the chaos of the Grand Bazaar. It is loud, colorful, and overwhelming in the best way possible. With over 4,000 shops and 60 streets, it is easy to get lost, but your guide knows the shortcuts. We’ll steer you away from the cheap tourist traps and show you the hidden 'Hans' (courtyards) where artisans still hammer gold and weave carpets by hand. By the time we drop you off, you won’t just have photos; you’ll have the smell of spices, the sound of the call to prayer, and the stories of Istanbul etched into your memory.

Time: 08:00 – 08:45
Location: Hotel Lobby / The Marmara Taksim / Sultanahmet Square (Meeting Point)

For Guests in Sultanahmet/Beyoglu: Your guide and driver will meet you directly at your hotel lobby. Look for the sign with the Anatolia Line logo. We recommend grabbing a quick Turkish coffee before we arrive!

For Guests in Airbnb or Asian Side: Please meet us at the entrance of The Marmara Taksim Hotel (Taksim Square) at 08:00 AM. It is a central landmark easy to reach by Metro or Taxi.

  • Logistics: Once the group is gathered, we’ll hop into our air-conditioned Mercedes Sprinter. Your guide will give a brief "Welcome to Constantinople" introduction as we navigate the historic streets toward the Old City peninsula.

Stop 1: The Hippodrome & German Fountain

Time: 09:00 – 09:30
Location: Sultanahmet Square

We start at the ancient sporting center of Constantinople. Your guide will decode the hieroglyphics on the 3,500-year-old Egyptian Obelisk and tell you the story of the German Fountain, a gift from Kaiser Wilhelm II. It’s a great spot for your first group photo.

Stop 2: The Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet Camii)

Time: 09:45 – 10:30
Location: Sultan Ahmet Camii

We visit one of the most famous active mosques in the world. You’ll leave your shoes at the door and step onto the soft carpets to gaze up at the main dome, decorated with over 20,000 blue Iznik tiles.

  • Note: On Friday mornings, the mosque is closed for cleaning until 14:30, so we may visit in the afternoon instead.

Stop 3: Hagia Sophia (Exterior & Optional Visit)

Time: 10:45 – 11:30
Location: Hagia Sophia

We stand in the shadow of the great Hagia Sophia. Your guide will explain its incredible 1,500-year history from Cathedral to Mosque to Museum.

  • Important: Entrance to the interior is now a separate ticket (€25) handled by the Ministry of Culture. Guests who wish to enter the new "Upper Gallery" can do so here, while others may choose to explore the surrounding gardens and take photos.

Stop 4: Grand Bazaar

Time: 11:45 – 13:00
Location: Grand Bazaar

Get ready for a sensory explosion! We enter one of the oldest covered markets in the world. Your guide will give you a quick "orientation tour" so you don't get lost, then give you free time to browse for spices, gold, or leather.

  • Note: On Sundays, the Grand Bazaar is closed. We visit the Arasta Bazaar or Spice Bazaar instead.

Stop 5: Traditional Lunch

Time: 13:00 – 14:00
Location: Local Restaurant

We take a break at a trusted local restaurant. You'll enjoy a set menu featuring Turkish classics (usually lentil soup, grilled chicken or meatballs with rice, and seasonal salad). Vegetarian options are always available.

Stop 6: Topkapi Palace, Harem & Hagia Irene

Time: 14:15 – 16:30
Location: Topkapi Palace Museum

The climax of the day. We enter the Imperial Gate of the Ottoman Sultans. We include access to the Hagia Irene Church (in the first courtyard) and the Harem, the private quarters of the Sultan’s family. You'll see the Imperial Treasury, the Holy Relics, and the stunning views of the Bosphorus from the Fourth Courtyard.

  • Note: Topkapi Palace is closed on Tuesdays.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the Hagia Sophia fee separate?

In 2024/2025, the Turkish government changed the visitor policy. There is now a specific €25 ticket for foreign tourists to visit the gallery level. To keep our tour price affordable for everyone (as some guests have Museum Passes or have visited before), we keep this as an optional extra.

Is the Harem section of Topkapi Palace included?

Yes! Unlike many other group tours that skip it, our "Best of Old City" tour includes the entrance ticket to the Harem section, which we believe is the most beautiful part of the palace.

What happens on Tuesdays and Sundays?

Tuesdays: Topkapi Palace is closed. On this day, we usually swap it for the Basilica Cistern and an extended Bosphorus experience.

Sundays: The Grand Bazaar is closed. We visit the Spice Bazaar (Egyptian Bazaar) instead, which is equally colorful and historic.

How many people are on the tour?

We try to keep our groups intimate, usually between 15 to 25 people. This ensures you can still hear the guide and move through the museums efficiently.

Do you pick up from the Asian side?

Our standard pickup is for European side hotels (Sultanahmet, Taksim, Beyoglu). If you are staying on the Asian side or Airbnb, we will ask you to meet us at a central meeting point like The Marmara Taksim Hotel.
